Anyone following golf knows Bryson DeChambeau had a stellar year at the major championships. His year peaked with winning the United States Open at Pinehurst. Still, while not winning major championships, Bryson DeChambeau has been cranking out some captivating YouTube content.
This past year has been a breakout year in the popularity of the multiple major winner. While the overall golf world remains fractured, Bryson figured out something the rest seem to be missing. He figured out golf is about the fans. He’s found a way to connect with the fans like no other player in quite a while.
Bryson has been connecting with even more fans by putting out some consistent content on his channel. Just ask his 1.44 million subscribers now. This includes fun stuff that most “serious” golfers would never would do like playing a round with a set of hickory clubs. Another challenge is seeing if he can break par with a set of clubs from Walmart. It’s probably not great for his golf game, but it is great for the fans to watch.
There’s plenty of excellent channel content, but the best is his Breaking 50 Challenge. It’s where he and a partner try to break 50 in a 2-person scramble format. If you haven’t seen it, it’s his partner hitting a fairway finding tee shot followed by Bryson batting cleanup, hitting bombs and driving some greens on par-4’s. It’s the excitement of every scramble we’ve all played in ourselves.
The challenge itself of breaking 50 is an Everest level challenge which obviously takes a flawless round. Even birdieing every hole doesn’t get it done. Besides the drama of the challenge, Bryson’s partners have been fun to watch. They’ve also been getting more and more high profile. Just to drop a few names, his partners have included Grant Horvac, Paige Spiranac, John Daly and President Trump.
I won’t spoil anything by divulging if Bryson and a partner have been able to break 50 yet. Even if they don’t, you’ll enjoy the golf course banter. You’ll enjoy their excitement to try to be the first team to beat the challenge. Most recently, Bryson teased his latest partner in the Break 50 Challenge. It’s NFL announcer and Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo.
