European Ryder Cup team captain Luke Donald has announced his six captain’s picks for the 2023 Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup will take place later this month in Rome, Italy. Donald selected Ludvig Averb, Nicolai Højgaard, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, and Shane Lowry.
The European team has some new names. The shakeup on the European side was due to many of the Long time Ryder Cup veterans being excluded. Players like Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and even ex-captain Henrik Stenson were banned from the team due to their move to the LIV Golf tour.
The six captain’s picks are added to the six players who already qualified. Those players included Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Robert McIntyre, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, and Matt Fitzpatrick. The US Team is coming off a 19-9 victory in the last Ryder Cup. The US team is presently favored to retain the cup in spite of the event taking place in Europe this year.
