Streamsong’s Blue course is a modern day masterpiece designed by Tom Doak. It’s one of the four courses at Streamsong Resort in Florida. Streamsong Blue is built on an property that was mined for many years for phosphate going back to the late 1800’s.
The extraction of phosphate ore took a toll on the property leaving it marred and oddly shaped. Deep quarry pits were left alongside large mounds of top soil that were left in large hills and mounds throughout the property. On top of this marred landscape, Tom Doak designed an exciting golf course that is truly one of a kind.
Your walk to the first tee takes you up a sandy path. You get some early cardio and you find yourself atop one of these massive tall mounds. Your welcomed with top of the world views over the Florida terrain and surrounding golf holes and clubhouse. The first hole is a short par four where the ball carries forever from the elevated tee box. As you take in the views and hit that first tee shot, you start to get a feeling that you are about to experience a unique golf journey.
You’re right for thinking that as the first seven holes on the Blue course are some of the most unique and fun holes you may ever play. Each hole is challenging and memorable. Doak’s design is unique in that each of these opening holes will present you with one shot that you have to get right. The par-4 4th hole requires a stand and deliver second shot. At about the 75 yard mark the fairway slopes drastically skyward to an elevated green at the top of a sand dune. Any shot even a couple feet short will not make the green and could come back 75 yards leaving a treacherous shot to try to take on again. However, the hole is fair in that you have all the room in the world long. This is where the caddies are so essential to newbies on the course and for anyone looking to crack the code at Streamsong Blue.
The remainder of the course continues to meander around lakes and up and over sand dunes and deep waste areas. The 17th hole is a tough long par-5 back up the dunes to a green with some spectacular pins positions. The 18th hole is a true test of golf and testament to the grandeur of the property. A generous fairway is flanked by waste bunkers to the right and left with high sand dunes framing the green.
