Money can’t get someone behind these gates. It takes both dedication and a commitment of service to your country (or knowing someone who’s done that). Behind the gates of the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, lies one of the jewels of the United States military golf course network, Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
Klipper Golf Course in Hawaii was designed back in 1952 by golf course architect William P. Bell. Bell moved to California at 25 years of age and got involved in the golf industry. He later transitioned into golf course construction working under several renowned architects before eventually going out on his own successfully. Bell designed over 50 golf courses in his architect career including world famous courses Torrey Pines North & South, Bel-Air Country Club and the Stanford University Course. Kaneohe Klipper was one of his final designs and its opening coincided with his time when he was also president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
The 18-hole Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii measures 6528 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 130 and a 72.5 USGA rating. The course features 3 sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. The greens and the fairways are bermuda grass. The course offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Ko’olau Mountains, and is a peaceful escape in a natural environment. The course is open to military personnel, families, and authorized guests.
Some additional golf course amenities include a putting green and driving range. The Klipper Grill allows military personnel and their guests a chance to enjoy a meal or beverage after their round while overlooking the golf course property. The Puka is a refreshment stand located out on the golf course. It offers snacks and beverages to golfers. With its convenient location and variety of options, The Puka is a great spot to stop for a quick bite or drink while enjoying the beautiful course.
