American Scottie Scheffler fired a bogey-free final round 62 to win the olympic gold medal. Jon Rahm led going into the final day and seemed to be marching toward the gold. However, he stumbled coming home on the back nine while Scheffler was storming toward the lead.
Scheffler started the day and was trailing by six shots at one point. Yet, a sizzling back nine score of 29 which was six under par not only closed the gap but made the difference in securing the gold medal. The epic closing back nine included four straight birdies on holes 14 to 17.

While Scottie Scheffler will be bringing home the gold. There were several players in the mix coming down to the end. Holes 17 and 18 played as the two toughest holes all week. Coming off a second major championship for the year, Xander Scahuffele shot a final round 73 falling from contention. Rory McIlroy was also making a late charge that fizzled after making double bogey on the 15th.
Tommy Fleetwood was able to climb into a tie for the lead with a birdie on the 16th. An errant drive on the long 17th followed by a mediocre chip by the green resulted in a bogey. A par on the difficult 18th secured Tommy Fleetwood of the UK a silver medal.
Hideki Matsuyama fired a final round 65 which led him into securing the bronze medal. Matsuyama lipped out on the 72nd hole which would have tied him for second. Local favorite, Victor Perez of France, finished just a shot out of the medals.
