Not from from the North Fork of Saint Lucie River, in Stuart Florida is a fun little course called The Shores of North River Golf Club. It’s an 18-hole par 66 layout. The course has no par 5’s but plenty of short par 4’s and challenging par 3’s.
The course is shortish playing about 4,500 yards from the back tees. Yet, it’s still challenging as it has several lakes and other water hazards that come directly into play. Additionally, the fairways are lined by some large pine trees and golf ball gobbling ficus trees. Most greens are small and built up and present a challenge to your iron game. Loose iron shots are typically deflected away from the green and roll away from the crowned greens.
The course is a traditional golf course in Florida that presents golfers a nice, green space to play golf. A big plus is that it is not a housing first golf course meaning that it doesn’t have houses lining all the fairways throughout the golf course. Also, larger trees create fairway definition in the heart of the course.
Talking to the locals, the conditioning has improved over the years. There are a couple memorable holes on the golf course. The first is the Par-4, 3rd hole. The hole has a large lake down the left. Golfers can take on all they want with the biggest hitters possibly taking a straight line to the green and attempt to carry the entire lake. The course leaves the golfer with a nice finish and another memorable hole. The Par-4 18th presents another carry across water and then that takes you up the hill back to the clubhouse.
Play this course if you’re looking for a fun, quick outing and are okay with fair conditioning. Your iron game will certainly get a workout as you will be hitting a lot of wedges. The staff is very attentive and friendly which might be the difference to bring you back.
